    I can't provide anything specific, but people are having the same problem
    over on the SpamAssassin list. If I recall correctly there is a server
    configuration option available to revert to perl 5.6 Unicode behavior. All
    posts I saw about this were RH 8.0 and greater specific.

    The SpamAssassin list (and or archives) could provide help.
