$Id$ is an "internal" cvs (http://www.cvshome.org) tag. it has no straight
relationship with the release (1.57) tag. To put it simply, if you are not seing
a difference in the $Id$ tag between version x and version x+1, that means the
particular file has not been updated (because it was not needed) but there sth
some other file(s) changed.
